Setup - account login problem

Hi All, we've just received our HoloLens and I am attempting to set it up. Every time I log in with my Microsoft account ID I am getting "Invalid Account". I can't seem to change the account ID. My Microsoft ID is a developer account with visual studio 2015 pro subscription. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I can't seem to bypass this step.

On the page asking you if you or your organization owns the device, make sure to select you own the device.

  • So I am having the same problem. I selected that my organization owns the device. However, there doesn't appear any way to go back and change this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!!

If you're stuck, press the power button once so the device goes to standby. Then press the power button again. OOBE should return prompt you again.

  • I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
  • That does bring me back to the tutorial on how to select a hologram, but ultimately I still end up needing to enter my password for my Microsoft account. Do you think I need to do a complete reset?
  • You will need to set up your account eventually. If you're using your Microsoft account (ex: bob@outlook.com), select "I own this device". The "my organization owns this device" option is used for enterprise accounts with AAD/ADFS.

  • Yep, that's my problem. I originally selected "My Organization Owns this Device" So I'm guessing that is what is causing the invalid login. Is there a way to go back and change this selection? Doesn't appear to be.
  • Ah I might know the problem. Could you restart the device? Hold the power button until all the lights count down. Then power it up again.

  • I have shut it down and started back up several times. Upon powering back up I do get the Hello message, but then it jumps to wanting to connect to the WiFi and then it asks for my Microsoft account password.
  • In that case it sounds like the account is already set up on your device. If you still can't signin after a reboot, you'll have to reflash the device.

    Follow the instructions here:
    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/holographic/reset_or_recover_your_hololens#Perform_a_full_device_recovery

    The process takes about 15mins.

  • Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks again for all of your help! I'll post back after a complete reset.
  • The Windows Device Recovery tool would not see my HoloLens in order to put it into recovery mode. I found how to do it manually but there are no further instructions from Microsoft on what to do once it goes into recovery mode. Lol! So I guess I'll let it sit for a little while and do its thing.
  • Finally up and running. Nothing like a crash course on what to do and what not to do. Thanks again for all the help!
  • @ACundiff, did you manage to get your device reset? Could you please elaborate as I have the same problems. Thanks
