Hololens as 3D scanner
Hello everyone, I would like to ask what is the best accuracy of the spatial mapping mesh and the best resolution of it.I have scanned a room with different number of triangles per cubic meter and got as a best result : 10cm average edge(of a face) length of the spatial mapping mesh. Is it possible to scan objects smaller than 10 cm size? Is the Hololens suitable as 3D scanner? if no, what are the other options for indoor 3d scanning?

Hey @BYS ,
my experience is that the spatial scanning of the HoloLens is not yet good enough to scan objects, especially small ones, as 3D models. You would also need to remove of other meshes from it.
The sensors however are very similar (if not equal) to the ones the Kinect has. So if you find a way to get the data from the depth sensor of the HoloLens and make lots of images of an object, you could be lucky to be able to generate a 3D model of the desired object.
But as Kinect is not that expensive, you could also just buy one and use the provided software. There are many tutorials on scanning with the kinect. There are also many other 3D scanners available on the market. Ranging from 100$ to 25.000$ :-P

Hi BYS,
I am new to this and have a simple question. How did you scan the room with the hololens or more accurate how could you see the results of the scanning?
