Deactivating the Virtual Keyboard

I'm really hoping there is a simple on/off feature to the Virtual Keyboard, that constantly pops up every time I click into an application that has a text-field. I've been desperately trying to work within the Cliff House environment for scripting, writing, and graphic work, because I really like the idea of having multiple windows open in an ocular, floating display format, but the Virtual Keyboard prevents me from effectively working within that space.

I see that many forums will state, "Click the X on the right of the keyboard."
Right, that disables it momentarily, but the moment I click again into the text-field, it pops up again and again and again. It's become a real battle rendering the environment unusable.

Is there a simple way to deactivate it while I utilize a conventional keyboard, and then reactivate it when I'm no longer using the conventional keyboard?

Thank you for your time,

Syvern.
