Necessity of Upgrading from HoloLens Gen 1 to Gen 2

Hi, I have HoloLens Gen 1 and it is working fine. However, recent news on HoloLens 2 came out. I wonder if it is necessary to upgrade for development and better user experience. If so, will I get a discount, or maybe a trade-in option?
Also, will Microsoft stop supporting HoloLens 1, or both gens will be supported on the software updates? What about hardware?
