Hello everyone.

We have decided to phase out the Mixed Reality Forums over the next few months in favor of other ways to connect with us.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

The plan between now and the beginning of May is to clean up old, unanswered questions that are no longer relevant. The forums will remain open and usable.

On May 1st we will be locking the forums to new posts and replies. They will remain available for another three months for the purposes of searching them, and then they will be closed altogether on August 1st.

So, where does that leave our awesome community to ask questions? Well, there are a few places we want to engage with you. For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality. If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers. And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Hololens 2 - "Your PC/Device Needs to be Repaired"

edited December 2019 in Troubleshooting

Was copying a bunch of files to the Hololens 2. It died (why is the Hololens on my desk draining power faster than it takes when its plugged into my machine not in use????) while transferring files. Charged up a bit, turned it on, now it's stuck at this screen:

Your PC/Device Needs to be Repaired

The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
Error code: 0xc0000184

Press the Windows key for recovery

As I cannot press the Windows key, I am basically hosed. The device won't mount on my machine for Advanced Recovery Mode, trying the hardware factory reset just brings me right back to this view. Any help is much appreciated.

  • This issue still persists. The device turns on, goes to this screen until it runs out of battery and dies, charges up enough to turn back on automatically, dies again, rinse and repeat. Even with a high current charger, it doesn't charger faster than it drains, so it's impossible to charge it up or do anything. Totally bricked :(

  • @SHaw What was the fix? So people still waiting on devices know in the future.
