Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

connecting our laptop's keyboard and mouse to Hololens

It will be nice if we can use our laptop's (or desktop) keyboard and mouse with our HoloLens.
So extending the screen into the HoloLens world.
When we are using it as an extension to our workstation, I don't want to switch from my laptop's keyboard to my Bluetooth one, this breaks the experience.

Interesting thought, I too agree that would be pretty sweet.
However, consider that HoloLens is a standalone Win 10 computer and not an accessory so the scenario is similar to controlling two PCs with one device. There are solutions for that (see Synergy) but that's not a UWP app ... yet!!! (Desktop App Converter anyone?)

I think the closest you can get with out of the box software is to use a multi channel Bluetooth set and switch it from one device to another when needed. Granted, not 100% seamless but better than 2 keyboards.

    I have a Lumia 950 + Hololens + Surface Pro 4 (a surface TV in the future?)
So MS has to provide a way to "move" opened apps between the devices... Like starting watching a video on my laptop, I want to continue with my Hololens to finaly using my Lumia.
"Hey Cortana, move this app to my device XYZ" is what is required...

As a MS ecosystem user I too feel that would be a great move going forward and even though it's just speculation thus far, I think that's the general direction that they are working towards. Excited for what's to come.

  • Cool ideas! In a way, you already can use your laptop/PC/Phone keyboard with HoloLens using the HoloLens companion app. But to use a mouse you'd still need to pair it directly to HoloLens via Bluetooth.

Moving this to the Discussion category.

  • My 2 cents, and only for dev mode

In the Developer Portal, you got the [Virtual Input] section which allows you to type directly from your laptop. So, you'll avoid the switch between laptop keyboard and Bluetooth one
