Hello everyone.
The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.
There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.
The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.
For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.
If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.
And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Edit:
Not looking for a professional grade application, just something that gets the job done.
Edit: I want my app to be able to caption full sentences like for instance, during a conversation.
@derek_peng You can do that by just recording a video, then edit out just the audio.
@derek_peng check out Holograms 212 chapter 3 and the Dictation Recognizer as a starting point in your interest to "caption full sentences".
However, if by "where do I start" you are looking for a starting point for your first steps in HoloLens development you should note the "Prerequistes" at the top of the page and start on Holograms 101 and work your way forward to 212.
Also note that the HoloLens microphones are optimized for detecting the user's voice (the person wearing the device) and is likely to be less successful at capturing the speech from other people in the conversation (at least out of the box).
