Error 80004005 Windows update for Windows 10

I have a problem to update my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. When I'm trying to update, the computer restart, try to install Windows 10 the restart again but it's always Windows 8.1.

And when I look into the Windows update, updates fails with the error code 80004005 and again download Windows 10. I tried many times but always getting the same error. I tried to fix the error by running the Windows Troubleshooter, this helps to fix some problem but the update fails again.

  • Hello lorein, it is found that many users are getting this error generally when the Window 10 is not activated properly or the license copy is not legitimate, so try to fix the error 0x80004005 by following the steps given below:

    1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Activation,
    2. After that select Troubleshoot to run the Activation troubleshooter.

Hope this will fix the error but if not then try to fix the Windows Update issues with the given steps.

    • Hit the Windows Key, and type troubleshoot > hit Enter.
    • Choose View all on the left panel and run Windows update troubleshooter from the list.
    • Click Advanced, and check that the Apply repairs automatically option is checked > choose Run as administrator.
    • Click on Next and follow the on-screen instruction and run the troubleshooting process.
    • Once the process is complete, now check you can install our planned Windows Updates without errors.
