Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Hololens Emulator on Oculus Rift/VR?

There's no way to actually know what your app looks like and size up from a HMD standpoint unless you stream it to an headset like Rift or Hololens.

Since so many people (including devs) will be getting the Rift/Vive (also cheaper). Shouldn't MS allow you to preview the emulator in VR?

Imagine walking around the test rooms and environment in the emulator. Able to quantify your app's full potential.

DefaultRoom.xef - A small living room with a TV, coffee table, and two sofas. Loaded by default when you start the emulator.
Bedroom1.xef - A small bedroom with a desk.
Bedroom2.xef - A bedroom with a queen size bed, dresser, nightstands, and walk-in closet.
GreatRoom.xef - A large open space great room with living room, dining table, and kitchen.
LivingRoom.xef - A living room with a fireplace, sofa, armchairs, and a coffee table with a vase.

Infact i can make the case that in some cases it will be better to prototype in VR through the emulator than in the actual hololens because of the limitation with the FOV.

kinda like this.

You can enter VR and see how your app will function without limitations and also plan out how to optimize and workaround those limitations for the real Hololens.

Another ex is the robot raid game, where robots are flying and attacking all around you.
So are there any plans for MS to implement the option to stream the emulator in VR?

I haven't seen any mention of Microsoft adding a VR emulator but I really like the idea. I'm stuck on one of the later waves and won't get my device for a while, but I do have an Oculus Rift. Even just testing on that would be preferable to using the emulator on a 2d screen.

I'm going to assume though that Microsoft is putting the majority of their effort behind improving the base HoloLens software and creating new apps, which only makes sense of course.

Unity 5.4f10 beta WITHOUT the meta editor patch for HoloLens when you select VR DEVICE is Oculus VR. Now you need another copy with the meta HoloLens patch and just keep swapping copies
