Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

Wireless Charging

After attending the Holographic Academy at BUILD, I would like to highly suggest that consumer versions incorporate wireless charging. The short battery life means having to remember to plug it in with the little cable. I have some serious concerns over that cable spot wearing out in 2-3 years.... and it will be VERY frustrating to lose the usage of a $3000 device due to not being able to properly charge it.

If there was a wireless charging pad that acted as the "home" for the HoloLens, I would be much less concerned about the power issues, as I'd know if I set it down at that specific spot each day it would be ready for me to pick up whenever.

How efficient/quick is wireless charging for laptops (which is essentially what the Hololens is)?

The HoloLens charger is 5.2 volts at 2.5 amps which is 13 watts. The latest QI chargers can charge at 15 watts, so this isn't out of the realm of possibility. Plus a mount that was designed to hold the hololens on a desk would be quite handy because it feels kind of weird to set it upside down on the table.
