How to add the Skype for Hololens add-in on a Microsoft Surface

edited October 2016 in Skype for HoloLens

I have a Surface and the Hololens, and I've been trying to replicate the functionality shown on the videos, where it is possible to draw holograms from the surface, however, when I start a call it starts with the same Skype limited functionality as with a normal pc.

looking through the help it says that the installation for the add-in will prompt when it detects that the call is being done to/from a Hololens, however this never happens (https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34641/frequently-asked-questions-about-using-skype-for-hololens?q=hololens). On the desktop version it is possible to download it from the menu ‘Tools’ --> ‘Install HoloLens Add-in…’ but I can't find it on the surface.

Any suggestion is mostly appreciated.

make sure you're not using the Skype Preview - I believe it's still only available for "classic" Skype

As of Feb 1 2017, HoloLens add-in is still unavailable for Skype Preview and "Classic" Skype is still unavailable for the Surface Book.
