Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

hololens tethered to power

I know the hololens is a standalone device but... Can it be used while plugged in to a power source to extend the usage?

Thanks for the info... Especially the part about optimal distance. I had seen that in the docs but did not think about some practical constraints that might impose on a sitting user.

What about a USB battery style charger like the ones people use to recharge their phones on the go?

Many of them are of a size that will fit in a pocket. Once our devices come in, I was planning on testing sticking one of them in a pocket with a USB cable connecting it to the HoloLens to see if it would continue to charge the HoloLens while in use..

That should work but I wont be the first to try it. I am too concerned about something frying my HoloLens...
