Hello everyone.

We have decided to phase out the Mixed Reality Forums over the next few months in favor of other ways to connect with us.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

The plan between now and the beginning of May is to clean up old, unanswered questions that are no longer relevant. The forums will remain open and usable.

On May 1st we will be locking the forums to new posts and replies. They will remain available for another three months for the purposes of searching them, and then they will be closed altogether on August 1st.

So, where does that leave our awesome community to ask questions? Well, there are a few places we want to engage with you. For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality. If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers. kinect code to hololens

i have a program written for connect to take motion and translate it into sound i was wondering if i can just port it over to work on a hololens or would i have to rewrite the whole/portion of it?

    @avramd02,

    If your code uses the color camera I think you should be able to reuse a lot of it -- though there will be some rewriting for uwp. AFAIK the hololens depth camera stream is not currently accessible so that won't work if your code depends on th at.

  • @avramd02, as James has pointed out, the color camera should work just fine. But HoloLens is a unique device with unique capabilities. You should try to look at what windows holographic can expose to you. Unfortunately there is nothing like a skeletal tracking available - it is fundamentally a very different device.
    While both Kinect and HoloLens have a concept of depth and technology to understand depth, one (Kinect) is designed to expose the raw data to you so that you can do whatever you want, HoloLens seems to focus on getting an understanding of your surroundings (spatial mapping) and interacting with those surroundings with HoloGrams.

    Besides of the camera, what you could use for example is the gaze direction, your position in space, and the hand positions.
