Prior knowledge needed to start working with HoloLens?

Hello there,

I was wondering if developers looking to work with the HoloLens should have any particular prior knowledge / experience in terms of coding and/or software?

I'm a young entrepreneur looking to partner with a programmer for a business idea using the HoloLens, and was hoping to be more specific in my search than "Must have experience with coding".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Coding is just one small part of the mix. An important small part, but just the tip of the ice berg.

Browse through the 100+ pages of documentation for a starting idea of some of concepts that come into play.

    • Unity
    • C#
    • 3D graphics
    • 3D modeling
    • Animation
    • User Experience
    • Gestures
    • Audio
    • Voice

are some of the basics but if you are not familiar with HoloLens development to some degree yourself, it will be challenging to tell in under an hour if the programmer you are considering is going to be a good HoloLens developer.

If you have any HoloLens user groups in your area you might want to start by doing some networking at the meetings to get a better idea both about what is involved and who the people in your area are that are familiar with the process.

    @Dom_62,

If you are looking to work with someone (and assuming they don't have prior HoloLens experience) here are some things you should prioritize:

    1. Unity development experience
    2. C# experience
    3. Some Universal Windows Platform + Visual Studio is a nice to have, since Unity projects are exported to UWP before being deployed to the store and/or device
    4. Any other 3d skills, like past Kinect development
