Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

UE4 support

Does anyone have interest in developing with Unreal Engine? I started a thread on the UE4 forums: https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?102399-HoloLens-Invites

At the moment there is no support but if there is enough interest I'm sure we can push Epic Games forward.

  • I have a huge interest in UE4 for Hololens. I found your thread on the Unreal Forums and replied to it. I hope we hear something about this. But apparently Epic Games is in Wave 3 which means it'll be a while before they can really mess with it. :(

  • I think this is a great opportunity the community to build a plugin or framework around this as I too am interested. If no one else does this I'll figure out a way.

It would be fantastic to be able to use Unreal with HoloLens. HoloLens apps are basically UWP apps, though, and from recent announcements Epic Games seems vehemently opposed to supporting UWP. Hopefully this can all get worked out. :(

  • The core of this is UWP support not being a focus currently at Epic. I'm hoping this will change in the coming months as the SpatialPerception capability of UWP becomes more visible as a 'new class of computing' not specific to hololens, but useful on any hardware capable of depth sensing / sensor fusion.

  • Seems Microsoft forked Unreal Engine and made it compile and run UWP.

Seems the UWP support for Unreal engine was added primarily to support Xbox deployment.

I'm wondering if there are any plans by ATG or another MSFT group to support HoloLens' HolographicView deployment as well.
