Changing colors of objects in Unity dynamically

Hi all!

I'm trying to get my bearings in unity and using scripts to control the holograms and I want to change the colors of different objects (just cubes, but lots of them) every few seconds independent of each other. What would be the best way to go about that to change each object's color? Would I need a new material for each color I am trying to use?
