Confused about Holograms 230

Hi everyone,
I'm just a beginner of hololens develop. I want to make hologram about visualizing the room's information model (like x-ray vision that you can see the pipes behind the wall). After I watched the spatial mapping part of Holograms 230. I have a few questions:

During the tutorial they are loading the result of the Device Port as the 3D model input and process that in computer's Unity to find planes. Does that mean the PlaneFinding script only works on the computer instead of the Hololens? Is there any method we can do the scanning&processing without using the Device Port on computer?
