what computer/laptop is needed?

I everyone... I am new here, busy with LEAN manufacturing, master in psychology, not a developer... but try to find out if I can make a prototype Hololens app for manufacturing process in chip industry.

I have a macbook pro early 2011, I can run windows 10 with my parallels, not with bootcamp... so windows 10 is on dual core (my quad core is split by parallels). Apple doesn't support bootcamp for my so called vintage machine... unfortunately

Now I want to buy a new laptop, busy with it for 3 days with no result.
Because of the GPU, people advice me not to buy a laptop but a PC. I always travel and at the moment I have 4 different work places. So first question... to laptop or not to laptop?

I see people advice not that expensive laptops.... and the requirements are not very specific.

Maybe it is a good idea to buy both... a laptop and a hololens. Is that good for the development process? Or is it good to have the emulator next to my visual studio anyway... for instant check and debugging? Or can I do this with a hololens too?

Hey there nice to see you and glad to know about your interest in working with HoloLens
Yes I can understand your view & as you are asking about it so I can recommend to get trials of the latest Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book #theperfect_2-in-1.
    { or}

check the necessary requirements of other products like HP etc. by going to the following link to make app for HoloLens for any of your prototype.
Please refer to this official link:

    https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/cat/All-PCs-tablets/categoryID.70661300

From the above link find your dream product

    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/holographic/install_the_tools

This is the link to know about the requirement about HoloLens app making in Visual studio and other necessary programs. So as you told you are on travel I would like to go for Laptop with pre-installed Windows 10 (Pro/Home : Your choice or as per Laptop selected )because of mobility and moreover you will have cloud service experience in Windows 10 so as wherever you go you can get your works being done at anywhere anytime with your system. And you can buy both Laptop & HoloLens but you can try out HoloLens Emulator to learn about HoloLens working without buying HoloLens now.

Please go to this link again and click on GET STARED BUTTON & ...
    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/holographic
I want to add a statement here that now Visual Studio 2017 RC1..But you can be with VS2015 update3. Follow the link to know about VS 2017

    https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/visual-studio-2017-rc/
You can get free Visual Studio 2017 of all 3 famous editions like Community, Professional & Enterprise for free where as we can get VS2015 community only as one free edition. Professional & Enterprise edition contains all optional but valuable features and security enable

Thank YOU !!! Have a wonderful journey
