Microsoft Hololens & Lytro

Hey,

I'm new to this forum, and i really just wanted to post my idea somewhere so that somebody could see it. But my thought is that, if Microsoft partnered up/bought Lytro, who makes light field cameras, they would be able to revolutionize the market, or atleast improve on the hololens experience. But being able to have light field data, instead of simple camera data, would allow Microsoft to have depth in their tracking. So they would be able to mask out parts of the body that are in front of an object, for example a hand. In my opinion this would improve the experience of Hololens.

    Hy @VikLundAnd it's like camera on kinect? so we can tracked body gesture or something?

    Hololens does have depth tracking and can occlude objects behind other objects. The spatial map resolution isn't that high so the occlusions are approximate but this is more likely a current processing restriction and something it will be able to do with more detail/faster refresh in the future.

    I'm not sure Lytro is a good option for improving depth sensing per se. The light field camera tech seems well suited for capturing images and videos that can be re-focused in post. This has created some amazing results for VR when used as a stereo capture device but the post-processing may be too much for an on-device (HoloLens) method for real-time depth sensing. Any idea how much depth resolution improvement could be gained?
