Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Is it possible to export geometry as an optimized FBX or other common format? I see export to cloud is a function, but my first thought is that this exports a scene that will work only for Verto. Basically wondering if Verto Studio can be used to create/optimize assets for use in Unity.

    Thanks!

Verto for mac on the desktop can export (and convert verto studio files) to OBJ or DAE. Holo export to other file formats is coming in a later update, but not yet in 1.0 release.

Thanks for the answer. I don't have a Mac and didn't realize Verto was an existing platform. Do you plan to offer export of optimized holograms through the HoloLens verto app? I'll grab the trial and check it out!

    Cheers!

I do plan to eventually add export from the holo app to other formats yes.

Sorry there's no trial active at this time.

For use with the HoloLens (and using your app), what are the actual recommended limitations for number of polygons, textures, materials, etc.? I have used 3D Beta Viewer, and found it very limiting. In fact, our latest model loads, but shows up as infinity for scale, and even when scale is re-set, the model is not visible. It has 76,000 vertices, which should be ok, zero textures, and 21,399 materials (strange). It displays fine in the Autodesk FBX viewer software, although that, of course, is being run on a normal Windows computer.
