Hololens will not boot up or charge

edited March 2017 in Questions And Answers

Hello,

While using my Hololens the display froze up with green and pink lights. I powered the Hololens down but now it won't boot up or charge. The Hololens had about 70% battery life when this happened.

I've tried to go through the recovery steps here: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/holographic/troubleshooting, but nothing helped. I've tried to connect the Hololens to my computer to run the recovery tool but the computer does not detect it or power it up either. I am using the original cable and charger.

I believe there was hardware failure. Does anyone have any suggestions? How can I contact a Microsoft representative about this issue?

Thanks,
polygonlabs

I have the same problem and the hololens was at about 70% as well (most likely unrelated I know)

It does sound like are hardware issue - but as part of the recovery did you try the following:
    1. Hold the power button for 15 seconds, until all the lights are off. (I guess you are already at this point)
    2. Press and hold the volume up button
    3. While holding the volume up button, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, until the middle LED on the device arm lights up.

    Then use the recovery tool.

Hi, does anyone follow Peter_NZ steps above and work? I have the same battery not charge and system no-response symptom, and I tried steps above but no response.

For the step 3, may I know what does the middle LED on the device arm means? Is it the 5 dotted lights above the power button? If yes, it shows nothing even step 3 is done.

No, is the middle LED (number 3) should be the only one on. The 2 LEDs on each side should be off.

Thanks Peter_NZ. I can see that middle light on only now. However, I can only get it when it is attached to the power adapter and cable. Once I pull it out from the power adapter, the device is off. When it is attached to the USB port of the PC, it only show the 5 lights on for less than 1 sec, and then turn off totally, no matter what button I press.

    @Rearon

Okay. Its does sound pretty serious - like a battery charging fault. Have you tried contacting Microsoft Support?

Hi, I have the same problem. When I press the power button, the leds scroll from the center outwards forever.

In my case I can do a full factory reset but nothing changes. Indeed, when the device restart after the reset never end the start.
