Explaining Smoothing in HoloToolkit's StabilizationPlaneModifier

Hello, guys.

What is the rationale behind the StabilizationPlaneModifier's smoothing of plane's position? Also why is smoothing used in some modes (fixed and gaze-based) but not in others (transform override)? Also why is lerp power selected differently for inward and outward plane repositioning?

Thank you for conceptual explanations!
