Best practices for mixed reality capture?

Hi,

What are the recommended shader and material settings for Hololens apps? I tried doing a capture of my app and all the objects were extremely faded and quite transparent. Even without a video capture they felt a washed out. I am using the Standard Unity shader for the materials and I am only using solid colors.

I've seen videos where the quality of the holograms are much darker, with them almost occluding the background. Any tips on achieving this?

Also does lighting affect the capture? Is brighter or dimmer environmental lighting preferred?

Thanks

There is a brightness setting on your device. One side is volume and the other is brightness.

Otherwise, can you share a screenshot or video? Some transparency is expected. And some videos that look more solid are from Spectator View which are composited.

Hey @mark_grossnickle , thanks for the response. I have the brightness turned up all the way.

I've attached a video. I took a capture of one of the holograms of my app https://youtu.be/TmfRw5ES4eM

and from the hololens holograms app https://youtu.be/cScxOZyFSa8

As you can see there is a marked difference. The holograms app is much better and appear almost solid. There are also some artifacts visible on the edges of my holograms. I took the capture in the exact same lighting, setting and location.

They seem the same to me. In the Holograms app video go to second 12. You can see right through it due to the back lighting.

Try a low light or dark room or at the very least get the window behind you and I think your app will appear more solid.
