Hello everyone.

We have decided to phase out the Mixed Reality Forums over the next few months in favor of other ways to connect with us.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

The plan between now and the beginning of May is to clean up old, unanswered questions that are no longer relevant. The forums will remain open and usable.

On May 1st we will be locking the forums to new posts and replies. They will remain available for another three months for the purposes of searching them, and then they will be closed altogether on August 1st.

So, where does that leave our awesome community to ask questions? Well, there are a few places we want to engage with you. For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality. If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers. Windows Store Platform: Holographic of not?

I've a game almost ready, it's in private beta test right now and I would like if Windows Holographic Platform is fine for a game targeting immersive headsets only. That's confusing for users so I think Microsoft is working on it right? But for today, do I've to uncheck Holographic or not? My game is a VR game not designed for HoloLens.

  • What if we want to ensure it'll ONLY run as a VR app. What's the preferred family for that?

  • @VertoStudio3D - I'm not sure there is a way to do that at this time. Even sideloaded apps that are built for the immersive headsets will launch in a windowed setting if there is no headset attached.

  • Yes that's it. My game is made for VR but I've added a Flat mode. If no headset is plugged to the computer, the game starts in 2D mode, otherwise it's the VR integration which is started.

    IMHO Microsoft have to add a tag or a category for VR games. Also it's important to indicate to the users that a game is only designed for VR.

    Some coming games are only working in VR (Space Pirate Trainer, Arizona Sunshine), so I think we'll have the option to only publish a VR game, or both.
