Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

How do you sit down in a mixed reality headset?

Is there any way to tell the system I'm sitting down so stop warning me that I'm near a boundary?
The headset would be great for watching videos on a big virtual screen if there was a way to sit down. Any actual seating like chairs and couches need to be outside the traced boundary, so if you do sit on one of them, you keep seeing the boundary warning lines.

Ideally it would be nice to be able to somehow tag a couch or a chair and have it sort of show up when you get next to it so you can find your seat with the headset on. For now I've been putting a touch controller on the couch so I can find it

  • Hey @r4nyc, I'm an engineer at Microsoft working on the Mixed Reality team in Windows. If you want to switch modes from standing to seated, you can go to the hamburger menu in the Mixed Reality Portal (top left), select Run Setup.
You can now select the seated option.

    Thanks!

Here's some more info on the setup: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/set_up_windows_mixed_reality#set_up_your_room_boundary

  • @RachelFromMSFT - Thats actually not a good solution IMHO... I want to actually walk around and sit down anytime without going to the menu.
Is it not possible to have a timout for the boundery? Like a slider in the options? So for example if I set it to 30 seconds, the boundery will show up for 30 seconds if I am out of boundery. After that it will not show up anymore until I walk into the boundery again.

Currently I solved this problem by just having my boundery around my sofa... I just have to remember that on one side there is an obstacle :D
