Objects turn black in periphery - Lenovo Explorer

So I'm having an issue with my Lenovo Explorer objects flashing black in the periphery of the field of view as you rotate your head side to side. Seems to be Steam VR related as it doesn't show up in the cliff house. I tested this in unity using the steam VR integration. If i use the standard PBS shader on a cube the problem is there. If i change the cube shader to an unlit texture than the issue goes away. Any one else experiencing this problem?
