Hello everyone.

We have decided to phase out the Mixed Reality Forums over the next few months in favor of other ways to connect with us.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

The plan between now and the beginning of May is to clean up old, unanswered questions that are no longer relevant. The forums will remain open and usable.

On May 1st we will be locking the forums to new posts and replies. They will remain available for another three months for the purposes of searching them, and then they will be closed altogether on August 1st.

So, where does that leave our awesome community to ask questions? Well, there are a few places we want to engage with you. For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality. If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers. And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Does mixed reality headsets support hdcp?

I'm a developer of an est/vod movie store frontend and would like to develop a vr interface for our customers to watch movies. Our current development stack is html5, with playready and smooth streaming for encoding and DRM on Windows. Do the hmd, for example the Acer support hdcp through the HDMI cable?

The Mixed reality headsets are entirely driven by the Mixed reality portal DRM cannot be implanted in the headset. HDMI cable only reads signal into headset firmware. The USB 3.0 port does the streaming, with out users names or codes or rights decode.
SteamVR bridge only supports locking of the app not the VR content.
The way most display app work is to watermark the display until the full version is purchased and the gives a feature of running DRM 4K Films. Unlocked from the 4k Blue Ray player

Xbox one X does not lock media only by referring to the Windows Store who recently removed all Zune DRM films and music by January 2018.

Unless even if you purchased film you downloaded the DRM free version by 2018. You have lost your digital purchased media

All Zune DRM code has been removed from Windows SDK in 2017. Zune DRM source code, previously compiling will fail errors not implementation in VS2017

No hardware support exists for DRM in Mixed reality.
Mirroring in the MR Portal simulator can use the video camera to record anything as the port is built in software
