New addition to HoloLens Companion Kit: HoloLens Commander

edited December 2016 in Questions And Answers

Today, we made available the HoloLens Commander in the HoloLens Companion Kit project on GitHub.

HoloLens Commander is built upon the WindowsDevicePortalWrapper open source library and demonstrates how to use the Windows Device Portal to monitor and manage HoloLens devices in a classroom style environment.

The code is based on the tool used at the Holographic Academy.

Contributions are welcome and encouraged, as are reports of issues encountered.

We cannot wait to see where the community takes this tool.

Enjoy!

  • Here's a link to the readme for the project. It describes the current capabilities as well as how to get started.

    Enjoy!

  • Hi David,

Can you send me a known build that is working, rather than having to build my self because I'm having the issues below?

I'm not a developer but have some coding experience so I took a stab at building the solution with Visual Studio from Git.

I've been trying to get Commander to connect my Hololens but after I enter the IP in the Connect dialogue I get the message on the bottom right, "...Paired with the Windows Device...". I uploaded a screenshot titled CommanderMessage.png

I know I have settings correct on the Hololens because I can successfully connect using a web brower and IP as well as via USB using local IP. See screenshot titled DevicePortal.png.

I've many things to try and get it to connect (all with the same end result):
    1. Use http:\
    2. https:\
    3. just IP
    4. add router in Connect Dialogue (although this did not seem to be required)
    5. Create Package with Visual studio 2017 and 2015.
    6. Create debug and release builds x86 x64
    7. check all settings, user names, pw's, etc over 5 times
