Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Vehicle Windshield Hardware Integration

Would it be possible to integrate the Windows Hololens hardware technology into a vehicle's windshield and existing eagle eye scanner system?

If so this could allow for GPS/Navigation systems to be viewed in real time interaction on the road, while in autopilot. Or you could replace billboards with user or vehicle customized advertising along the interstate. Or it could be linked back to police car license plate database to scan and show warrants, vehicle speeds, or stolen vehichles while driving. Or you can show lane lines and get rid of painted highway lines, which would allow for lane change to redirect traffic during evacuations or around traffic. You can also use it to change speed limit signs, due to inclement weather. Another application could be used in uber cars to scan for facial recognition to show passengers waiting for pickup.

Please share your ideas. Also someone with money, please create this and partner with Tesla.

  • The answer is yes ...but not quite. Actually a couple of AR engineers at Jaguar/Land Rover are working on this. See the videos below :

  • Thanks @vlgs, when I spoke to the Jaguar team I think they said this was still very expensive and in its' early stages of development. Do you know if the HoloLens itself is capable of tracking the environment and other objects on the road at speed? In my experience the initial calibration is fairly time consuming for a static scenario.

  • That helmet is awesome! I would use a similar helmet for motorcycles that warn you in the event that a wild animal might jump on the road in front of you!

Sorry for the late answer. You are very welcome !
I'm afraid the tracking is not designed to track the environnement at speed.
