Viewing colored 3D models on the hololens

Hi All!

I was hoping someone might be able to recommend a method of viewing colored 3D models creating in Microsoft 3D Builder on the Hololens. When I try to export as a .OBJ or .STL file, the color is lost and the model is monochrome.

I've tried several different apps, including 3D Viewer Beta and Builder. For some reason Auto360 won't allow me to log on, but would that allow me to view the models?

What's interesting is that I created the colored models by overlaying a colored texture map onto a monochrome 3D model in Builder. I was easily able to import a .mtl file with 3JPEGS to do the trick. Is there a way to do this in Builder on the hololens? Otherwise is there a way to export the colored product from Builder on my laptop and import it into the hololens?

Thank you in advance! I really appreciate it.

H

Update 20th December 2016 Windows Creator Update preview (build 14971) has updated 3D apps.
STL and OBJ will always be single colour.
Therefore use 3MF or Autodesk public .FBX (Unity compatible) needs to be used for colour.

3D Builder has been updated and is now available on HoloLens.

3D Scan for Kinect 2 has been updated to real-time 3D colour and uses 3D build to produce colour output

3D Builder runs as a 2D UWP app in Hololens.
