This is the Introducing 3D for everyone Blog . Get the Paint 3D from here How to get your PC ready for 3D

One you have selected a picture click the Paint icon. If you have not logged into Paint 3D, you may have to do this click again.

When you "Save -> Save as" the default is .FBX which can be loaded into Unity and viewed in the HoloLens 3D Viewer preview.

  • Is there a way to go straight from the 3D paint app to the HoloLens? Or is the most direct way to export to .FBX, upload to OneDrive, and the Import into 3D Viewer on the HoloLens? The Microsoft Event demo on Oct 26th implied a more direct import method for the HoloLens. Thanks!

This will be in the Windows 10 Creators Update and we, Insiders have NOT got this yet. Insiders are getting one new app a month!, so we will have wait or will it be in the Holographic update after December 4th announcement :)

  • Yes just create a 3D image, and save it as either an FBX model or OBJ model. Then import the FBX file as an Asset into Unity.

Hi @mr0ng One way would be if Autodesk Inc. put their Windows Store app FBX Review on to HoloLens.
    Works well on PC

Personally I would like 3D Builder to support FBX and to be available on HoloLens. Its all UWP so why not, suggested to Windows Feedback Hub.

When you have used Import Asset to get FBX into Unity Scene you have to add a Mesh Collider and Mesh Renderer components to view them in player

I have changed to Transform Scale to 10 for X,Y,Z and Rotation for Y axis to 90 to get a better angle.
All that remains to be done is to select WSA Build and build in Visual Studio 2015, use Release, x86, Emulator or straight to HoloLens Device

In Windows 10 Insider Build 14986 (9th Dec 16) there is a new 3D called "View 3D preview" which has ability to link to Paint 3D preview and website Remix3D. This can read and display .FBX files used in Unity

So you can now have a better viewer then 3D Build

In this version if you load Paint 3D then the original Paint.exe from XP Windows is disabled.

All the same functionality is there just type keys Control + A to bring up the visual menu for cropping etc

  • Windows 10 Insider build brings a new version of 3D Builder including future support for HoloLens, now entirely written in UWP. Read all about the new features and those Insiders are testing in View 3D Preview

Well here we are on the live Windows 10 Creators update with Kevin showing a Windows Holographic Lenovo Occluded headset in the $300 dollar range and gives an update showing how easily Galaxy Explorer can be updated to the new headset.

At 1hour 46 minutes into the live stream video which will eventually be available to download

In the example below a simple change has been added
    if (MyAppPlatformManager.IsDisplayOccluded())

This now allows differentiation between HoloLens See Through headset and the new Occluded headsets.

These headsets can be likened to the HoloLens Emulator.
So anything running on the HoloLens Emulator will run on new Occluded headsets.

PS the curves are Azure Media Services waiting to restart the video I had frozen. Paint 3D is so advanced now all the editing was done using Paint 3D, just press Control + A to go back to 2D.
