Photos App keeps crashing

edited March 2017 in Questions And Answers

Hey everyone,
the standard Photos App on my Holo Lens keeps crashing. After trying to open the app, it immediatly goes into sleep mode and doesnt show my photos or videos. I tried everything from rebooting the Holo Lens several times, to removing all Photos and Videos via the Device Portal.
Anyone got a fix or idea?

Thanks.

  • Hey, I am facing the same issue since last 1 hour. This issue surfaced for me after I tried to record a video through cortana while in viewing my 3d model. I tried to replay the video when it popped up, it played for awhile and then it just crashed. :(

    What was your trigger?

  • Hey, I also had the same problem.
    My solution:
    Open settings
    Select Network & Internet
    Turn off Wi-Fi
    Launch photos :)
I think that the cause is OneDrive authentication.
It may be that the cache file etc is broken.
    Thanks.

  • I have this problem too. It appeared after I took a photo while streaming through the live preview / mixed reality capture in the device portal. I can make it run for a couple of seconds by browsing to a photo in OneDrive and select "Open In". But then it crashes/goes to sleep. The CPU does reach 100% for a couple of seconds before the app goes to sleep mode. I have tried rebooting the device, deleting the space I'm in, deleting photos in OneDrive and directly on the device using the file explorer interface, and I also tried switching off wi-fi. Still unable to get the app to work.
Running out of ideas - short of resetting the device. Would need this feature for a customer demo tomorrow, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Had the same issue. Started the HoloLens withoput Wi-fi once and it didn't work. After re-starting it, turning on Wi-fi and deleting some spaces it worked :-)

  • @Mondo I had to reset the HoloLens to factory settings to get this resolved. :)
