Custom controller

While I wait for my dev unit, I started to code the first bites of one of our core (government related) projects with HL , but now we have the need to create a custom controller with a couple of gyroscopes, a directional button (only up and down) and a vibration feedback. although I have good experience developing with C# and playing with Unity, my knowledge with hardware and human interfaces are limited. Question: what is the best way to deal with this? The MS HL team recommends any library or stack in particular to have an optimal integration with HL? any link will be appreciated.
