Anyone else having trouble with their HMDs today?

I am running 16299.15 and all had been working well until I plugged in my HP HMD today. It appears that Windows update downloaded a new driver today, version 10.0.16299.1012.

Windows no longer recognizes my HMD. I now get the "HMD is not found error - Code 43" error detailed on the Headset support page. https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/immersive_headset_support

  • No problem on my side, what is your configuration?

  • I have a Surface Laptop i7 16gb of RAM.

I reset the OS and all is working again. I bit drastic so I hope it doesn't happen again.

I have the New Surface Pro with the same specs, and I have never been able to get my Acer HMD to be properly recognized by the system (the tablet screen flashes like it's having a seizure, and the headset display doesn't ever turn on).

Sorry to hijack this thread, but did you have any trouble initially (before your recent hiccup), or did it work as expected when you first installed a Fall Creators' build?

I did just update my machine to 16299.15, but haven't tried using my headset again. Maybe the new driver (assuming it also applies to the Acer headset) will work for me...

  • The Unity preview doesn't work anymore with the latest updates. But it works well in the build.

  • I think you'll find it'll work with 16299.15. One thing though, you need a HDMI -> MiniDP adapter that supports 4K. I tried a "cheap" one and the HMD didn't display anything. I tried again with the MS Surface branded adapter and it worked.

  • Don't need this kind of connector, I use a desktop PC with a dedicated HDMI port ;)

  • Well I'm back to the same problem. I really don't want to have to reset windows again.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

The USB set address request failed.

  • Same issue here with an Acer headset - it tends to break from time to time. Everything shows good on the device manager but when opening the MRP app it shows the dreaded "Check your display cable" message.

  • @Wallman, could you create a new feedback using Feedback Hub describing your issue? You can put a link to this forum post in the details. If you use the "reproduce this issue" while connecting your device that will provide the best available information to understand the problem.

I just received my DE Acer HMD and also cannot get past the check your display cable message. I will create a new feedback post in hub as well referencing this post.

  • It feels like we're all having completely different problems...
