Object tracking with the Windows MR headsets

I am looking to add object tracking in my Windows MR application. I know the Vive has a Vive tracker that attached to objects, but I was not sure if Windows had something similar. What would be the best option for Windows MR headsets?

Could a controller be attached to the object that needs to be brought into the application? Are there any examples of this currently in development or in use?

I am also interested in this - is it possible to create light rings and teach the MRTK to look for a new pattern?
