Spatial Understanding tutorials

Hi,

My goal is the automatic placement of holograms on the floor, on the wall and on surfaces (e.g. table, chair).
I took a look at the spatial understanding scene in Holotoolkit example, in particular on the actions associated to the menu (finding empty places on floor / wall / surfaces).
Is this the only example available of spatial understanding?
This example seems to be pretty defined to draw lines to create holograms, and I'm looking for something for placing gameobjects. Also, not a lot of documentation is available that explain how it works in detail.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi einstyle,

Did you try to use a "TapToPlace" ? If i'm not miss-understanding your problem, this gives you what you looking for.
This script provide to a GameObject (with a collider!) the capabilities when you "AirTap" (click) on it to follow your gaze while he will follow every surface your gaze gonna meet. Also be carefull of the "Pivot" position of your Object , this is this one the who's gonna touch surfaces.

I hope I've helped you, let me know it,

  • I've been using tap to place until now.

What I want to do as next step (the purpose of this question) is to automatically place holograms once the app is started. The user won't place them, they're automatically placed in empty spaces of the room.

  • Ok i see what you mean, but what the conditions for the placement ?
It's surely possible to position at the first plane surface you have front of you.
I think the real difficulty it's to place at the beginning of the application, because you don't have immediatly a spatial mapping.
I adviss you to see the MR academy 240 (Sharing Services) ,
one part talk about automatic placement front of the user.
