Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Thoughts on hololens2

Haven't got a hololens2 in hand obviously, but based on the current marketing hype and what is shown ...

  1. More emphasis on getting a user to put their arms up in the air ... THIS IS A LOSING UI ... arms up is not a long term UI mechanism ... arms get tired. Sure it's nice how detailed hand tracking can be, buy what if you put all those development dollars into a useful API? Glitz, glimmer, but useful functionality about 1 out of 10.

  2. How about basic and usable functionality for 3D space, something like this?

There is tremendous value AR could be providing quickly ... but instead, we get more arms up in the air.

Wish I could end with 'good job microsoft' but that wouldn't be truthful. Looks to me like Microsoft is trying to rope in and kill off interest in AR.

For AR use Vuforia https://developer.vuforia.com/vui/pricing this has been running on Hololens 1 version 6.6 since 2017 and it's still free to personal developers
However, Hololens 2 is only available to commercial companies in the USA only just available is Hololens 1 in Asia and it's still called the developer's version ;)
