Surface Book vs. HP Reverb - a "no-go"?

I love my Surface Book 2 (15" with GTX 1070) and used it together with a Samsung Odyssey+ for the last months. This worked well with the Microsoft adapter (USB-C to HDMI).
Now, with the HP Reverb the connector has changed from HDMI to DisplayPort and it does not work with the original Microsoft adapter (USB-C to DP).

In the device manager I can see both the "HP Reverb VR Headset VR1000-2xxx" in "Mixed Reality Devices" as well as the "Mixed reality headset" in "monitors".
The MR-Portal behaves weird, it constantly switches from "Device is in sleep mode" to "check your display cable".

Any idea what needs to be done? Or is it not possible to run a HMD that needs DP from the Surface Book?
