Holographic Dreams & Advice

Hello, I was lucky enough to try HoloLens at a demo event the other day and I am wondering if I could get some advice from the community. I am not a developer and can by no means afford the developers kit, but I am completely enthusiastic about this technology and the potentials for interactive media.
I am a media creator with a growing community and I would like to create an app to present an entire environment within your room with interactive 3D features that link up to outside accounts. For instance, I would like a TV to display my YouTube, a radio to play my Bandcamp and SoundCloud, a treasure chest to showcase different popular items from my Etsy store that users can buy, and eventually I would like to have key members of the community presented in avatar form for users to interact with. (I understand the depth of the interaction is very important and I hope to tackle that soon). Many of these things are feasible from what I saw in the demo, so my question is, what can I do? Is diving into Unity and rendering 3D images via the emulator the best idea for me? Would it be useful to build this in another environment like a website or would that be a waste of time as there is no simple conversion between platforms?
Thank you!
