How to convert CAD files to fbx
Hi, I found there were a lot of nice CAD files in STEP format for example. Anyone knows how to convert this and other CAD format to fbx format so I can use them in Unity?
Thanks,
Fireman

Check out this tool here (I haven't tested it myself):

Totally not helpful.
I have also struggled with this issue. Maya struggles to open up components with several bodies.
You can use 3DS Max for that, import your step file to 3DS Max and after that use the Game Exporter of 3ds to export it as a FBX model.
You can use the tool of 3dstudio for your material conversion; http://www.3dstudio.nl/webshop/product/1-universal-material-converter
You might to try Blender, which is a free program, to import and export to different 3D formats.
