How are the Holograms stored in HoloLens?

This is ultimately an application level decision. The HoloLens gives your application the capability of displaying holograms. How you define and store your holograms is totally up to you. As an example, I could produce an app which uses procedurally created Holograms, and there could be effectively no 'storage'. That having been said, the vast majority of holograms will be based on a traditional 3d storage format, as James mentions.

It's all the Unity supported extensions for a 3D game or environment: .fbx, .dae, .3ds, .dxf and .obj.
