Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

I am trying to get a team together for an educational experience with a Puppet. I have mostly worked in the past with quadriplegics and VR. Would someone tell me a few of the skill sets I must look for in this team. I want to bring a puppet to life, A friend of mine has designed for Sesame Street and he has given me permission to use a cool Monster. Any advice here is greatly appreciated. • Not 100% sure what you mean by "skills", and I am not an expert, but as a base. There is a UNITY "games" development system you can use to create the holograms, then feed them through MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIOS. Have you been here yet? https://dev.windows.com/en-us/holographic/academy This is where you learn to develop.

  • Developing for HoloLens requires both coding and design skills.

As mentioned by @HoloCaster, Unity is a recommended development tool. Using Unity, you will write your codein the C# language.

The following link may help to understand the design considerations and skills required.

  • Hi @offsmack
I think you might find these two articles interesting:

  • Depends on the type of application you want to build.

    2D apps:
    Basically Windows 10 UWP APIs
    C#.Net (or VB.Net or C++)
    XAML (or DirectX/D3D)
    Visual Studio 2015
    HoloLens Emulator (or HoloLens device)

    Holographic apps:

    C#.Net
    Unity3D Editor
    3D Modeling / texturing / animation / particle fx
    Unity3D Programming/Scripting
    Maths and Physics concepts
Image processing and Computer Vision algorithms
    Visual Studio 2015
    HoloLens Emulator (or HoloLens device)

You could also replace Unity3D with another game or graphics engine or even go barebones DirectX using C++ or SharpDX/C#.
