Recording a Unity app that uses the webcam

I'd like to record a demo for a Unity app and the app needs to use the webcam to take photos. Regardless of whether I record the video through device portal or Cortana, it stops as soon as the app accesses the webcam. Is there any way to do MR capture "over" the app using webcam?

  • @ContextVR That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming.

BTW someone pointed me to "Microsoft Hololens" companion app in Windows Store, which is a third option for MR capture. Although it doesn't solve the issue, there is an interesting difference vs. Cortana recording or device portal. Instead of interrupting the video streaming, my app is blocked at the line of starting photo mode, until the MR capture is stopped on the desktop side. It seems there's a priority order in using the webcam: companion app > user app > Cortana / device portal.

  • Yeahy, push the boundaries of science and technology! We are in the 21st century, but we are still not able to have two applications share a camera...

Please Microsoft, do something about this, it wouldn't be the hardest problem you have solved so far considering the huge technological achievement that Hololens is.
