Holo Raid: Shoot raiders through a space portal on your wall

edited August 2016 in Projects

So just submitted my 2nd prototype concept Holo Raid for certification. I was just playing around with spatial mapping and admiring how "Robo Raid" places holes in the walls, so tried to do something similar - but crude :) . I dint put as much polish on this one as my first #HoloTankz game since I am busy with the Hologram Sharing technology I am cooking up for my stealth project. But instead of having the project just laying around on my laptop, I will let you guys have some space shooting fun through a portal on your wall :)

I will update this post with links to download as usual. Also a video trailer is coming up :)

Here is a video of the game, had to turn off lights to see something in the recording. I have to figure out how to make good videos of HoloLens apps :) It looks much better on the device though.

Fantastic! Nice work. Looking forward to checking it out!

Does the portal/tear get larger? Perhaps an added gameplay element could be a growing fracture if you miss objects that get through? Great use of background opacity implementation, though I can see why you need a dark room.
Another variant could be looking out to the surface of a planet with a brighter background. Maybe HoloTankz and drones coming through. That may work better with regular room lighting.

Gameplay doesn't require a very dark room. It's the mixed reality capture that somehow doesn't record anything on this game, if the room is not pitch dark.
The fracture/portal is fixed size right now. It was a good exercise. I will be using knowledge learnt here in future projects.

This game is really fun. First app I used again and again in the Hololens. The portal makes me forget about the FOV since I'm constantly moving and focused on the other world, my brain fills it all in. First app that gave me the suspension of disbelief. Thanks for sharing it!

Agreed..... Totally awesome... I love the effects... Watching a fire ball shot from the aliens move past me is really well done... No doubt more of these types of projects are coming... As far as I am concerned, the FOV is perfect where we remain grounded in real - reality.... So a person with a fear of heights doesn't freak out as they do with 100 percent immersion through Virtual Reality...
