Glitching

edited October 2016 in Questions And Answers

What would cause it to glitch?

Seen thru the HoloLens it glitches mostly when I look up and down, I see different colors being produced by the lenses and its glitchy - unusable.

I'm using the framework from the Holograms 230 Academy.
(I have all these same objects loaded with the Origami framework with NO glitching)

Take a look at the video below - it records different than what I see but you can see it's glitchy..
Any ideas?

It most likely means the FPS is too low. Does it still happen with less objects? - there seems to be a lot of geometry in your video. The Device Portal has System Performance which can tell you the exact FPS at given time.

HoloLens have special hardware support to process the frame buffer based on the anticipated orientation of the device at the expected projection time - but that only works if the motion is relatively slow and the frame rate is high. If the FPS drops to single frames and the user moves the head a lot it will look not so well. The good news is I have seen it a lot as well, so nothing wrong with the device.

Thanks for the tip. I'm using the FPS monitor in the Device Portal and here's what I find:

    Running performance tests on:
    1) HoloAcademy Holograms 212 - Voice
This App dips down to 34 FPS with simply the Astronaut being manipulated.

My App uses the same codebase..

    2) My App with All 12 Objects Loaded - 15 FPS
    3) My App with 8 Objects - 30 FPS

If the Microsoft Sample App is dipping down to 34 FPS with only one object, it's not a very good example.

What should i do at this point?
