Best way to provide remote input to Hololens?

What would be the best/easiest way to give simple input to the Hololens while someone else is wearing it? I was thinking possibly an Xbox controller, but I'm not sure how I would generalize the input. For example, I want to change the hologram the user sees when I press a button, regardless of where they're looking.

Is it necessary for the controlling person to see the holograms (e.g. for selection)? In this case, a kind of shared experience could be helpful.

No, there is no selection involved. That's what I'm not sure about, how to give input that does not rely on selecting a hologram.
