HELP: Hololens MAC Address Before Setup

VivaciVivaci
edited July 2016 in Questions And Answers
Can anyone tell me how to get the MAC address for the Hololens prior to setting up the device? I need it in order to connect to my wifi. Thanks!

NOTE: I'm currently stuck on the connect to wifi screen because my apartments wifi requires adding my device to my account through a MAC address. The methods online does not show me how I can do that without accessing the settings. I'm not sure how to access settings during the setup tutorial.

@vivaci, according to this page it sounds like you might be in a bit of a catch-22.

You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network the first time you turn on your HoloLens and set it up. After you have completed initial setup, HoloLens can be used without an active WiFi / internet connection, but with the limitations below.

I just double checked one of my devices against the box it came with. The serial number is on the original box (as well as being printed on the device), but no sign of the MAC address on the box (or on the device).

My guess is you will need to either find another network to connect to for the initial setup, introduce your own secondary wifi router into the mix or you will need to talk to your wifi service provider.

@Vivaci like HoloSheep said you will need to temporarily connect it to a network that does not have mac filtering. At this time you can pull the mac address from your device in the settings menu. We recommend using your phone, if possible, to setup a temporary access point as this may be the easiest solution.
