separate child components from parent

Hi,

I am beginner working with unity,the problem i am facing is I have a 3d model with many child components and now I want to separate them..So, that the model opens and we see the child components at some distance....I mean that my model should be split and all its child components gets separated...So, my question is,Is there any method to separate individual child components from parent.Looking for the help:)
