Hello everyone.

The Mixed Reality Forums here are no longer being used or maintained.

There are a few other places we would like to direct you to for support, both from Microsoft and from the community.

The first way we want to connect with you is our mixed reality developer program, which you can sign up for at https://aka.ms/IWantMR.

For technical questions, please use Stack Overflow, and tag your questions using either hololens or windows-mixed-reality.

If you want to join in discussions, please do so in the HoloDevelopers Slack, which you can join by going to https://aka.ms/holodevelopers, or in our Microsoft Tech Communities forums at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/mixed-reality/ct-p/MicrosoftMixedReality.

And always feel free to hit us up on Twitter @MxdRealityDev.

Funding for VR

Hello,
Can anyone suggest what bridge to cross to get to investors and funders for VR development without being a non-profit?

A clear idea/presentation of what you are proposing to do with the technology and a strong business plan which shows a likely and regular income and how the investors would benefit (with realistic figures).

Here are a few routes that I'm taking:

    • Public meetups through meetup.com, I now attend the BostonVR and BostonAR meetups regularly.
    • Consider treating the use of VR/AR as a Unique Value Proposition, which opens you up to investments not exclusively for VR. This depends on the importance of the problem you're solving. If it's for entertainment, you're basically screwed.
    • Do you actually need funding? Statistically, 50% of all VR/AR developers are currently bootstrapping. Being funded puts you in the top 25%

As @AlanFoster mentioned above, come up with a really good value proposition. Doesn't matter what field it's in, raising capital is really about convincing someone (anyone) that the money they'll give you MIGHT give them a return of 5x in a reasonable amount of time - and the risk is that they'll loose it all :)

So it's not really about VR at all, it's about investing in general.
