Huge performance drop whenever I change the scale of GameObjects

I'm building a 3D table of sorts with about 40~ entries in Unity, and each row of this table is made out of a Unity 3D cube primitive. Because I like to readjust the size of the entire table during testing, I usually put all of those GameObjects inside of a parent and control the size of the table by changing the scale of said parent.

I noticed, however, that whenever I make changes to the scale, my resulting Hololens build suffers a huge drop in performance, bringing in some very intense chromatic aberration. If I leave the scale of my objects untouched, however, no performance drop is seen. What gives?
